Insulation and Interior Finishing

Standard containers are not insulated or finished on the interior. The interior climate of your container can be drastically improved by adding insulation. Most of our customers choose to go with fiberglass insulation. It is the same type of insulation you find in many homes. At a thickness of 3 ½”, it provides an R-13 insulation value. We also offer rigid polystyrene foam panel insulation. These panels come in several thicknesses and provide an R-5 insulation value per 1”. Alternative insulation, such as open or closed cell spray foam and thermal coatings are available upon request as well. The two most common wall coverings our customers choose are Hardie Paneling™ or plywood.

Fiberglass Insulation With FRP Plywood Paneling

This is a standard wood framed interior with R-13 fiberglass insulation. The insulation is rolled behind 3/8” plywood with an FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Panels) overlay. The wood studs are on 16” centers. We do not make any penetrations to the exterior of the container. The wood frame is fitted within the structure of the container. The fiberglass insulation is 3 ½” thick. The FRP overlay provides an easy to clean water proof surface.

Rigid Polystyrene Foam Paneling

This is a steel studded interior with 2” rigid polystyrene foam paneling. We can secure the panels to steel studs as seen here or to flat bar welded to the inside corrugation throughout the interior. The foam panels are available from 1” to 3” thick. The panels offer an R-5 insulation value per 1”. The foam panels can remain exposed or paneled over with plywood or Hardie Paneling™.

Fiberglass Insulation With Hardie Paneling

This is a standard wood-framed interior with R-13 fiberglass insulation. The insulation is rolled behind 5/16” Hardie Paneling™. The wood studs are on 16” centers. We do not make any penetrations to the exterior of the container. The wood frame is fitted within the structure of the container. The fiberglass insulation is 3 ½” thick. The Hardie Paneling™ is a durable wall covering that is fire-rated and waterproof.

Closed Cell Spray Foam

Of the several types of insulation we offer, closed-cell spray foam offers the highest insulation value (approximately R-6 per inch). The spray foam completely covers the surface of the corrugated shipping container walls. There are no gaps between the insulation and the container’s wall (as there are with fiberglass or polystyrene panels). There is much less risk of condensation or moisture developing with closed-cell spray foam. It can be sprayed as thick as necessary to achieve whatever insulating value you require.
